I will visit Nauru from 30 January to 1 February to represent the Australian Government at Nauru’s Independence Day celebrations.
This will be my second visit to Nauru, following my attendance at the 49th Pacific Islands Forum in September last year.
Australia is Nauru’s largest development partner and a significant destination for Nauruan students; many of Nauru’s leaders have studied in Australia.
I will also participate in a ceremony marking the commencement of work on the redevelopment of Nauru’s port. Australia is supporting the construction of this key piece of infrastructure to increase Nauru’s links with the rest of the world and boost the competitiveness of its exports.
This visit is a further demonstration of the Government’s commitment to stepping-up Australia’s engagement in the Pacific.
