More than 860,000 older Australians face being left without essential support services after a Senate inquiry confirmed the Albanese Government has no credible plan for the future of the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) beyond 1 July 2027.
The Coalition has introduced the Aged Care Amendment (Restoring Human Override for Aged Care Needs Assessments) Bill 2026 which would force the Albanese Government to do what it has refused to do for months and put qualified assessors — not a computer algorithm — back in charge of aged care decisions.
The Albanese Labor Government's announcement today that it is creating a special priority assessment pathway for MND patients to access aged care support is a clear admission that its Integrated Assessment Tool is failing and human override must be reinstated urgently.
