COALITION COMMITS $7.6 MILLION TO POST-NATAL FAMILY SUPPORT IN THE TOP END

An elected Dutton Coalition Government will ensure that the first order priority in Indigenous health is delivering better health outcomes, by funding organisations that are successful and make a practical difference for Indigenous Australians.

Today, the Coalition announced that, if elected, we will provide $7.6 million to Tresillian for the establishment of a post-natal Family Care Centre in Katherine, and to enable the purchase of two four-wheel drives to service Katherine and remote areas. This commitment will fill a critical gap in post-natal services in the Top End and directly responds to requests for such support from the community.

Shadow Minister for Indigenous Australians, Senator Nampijinpa Price said this announcement highlighted the Coalition's commitment to outcomes-based health solutions for Indigenous Australians in regional and remote communities.

"Tresillian provides a raft of critical parenting advice and support services which are needed by parents everywhere, but especially in remote and rural parts of the country."

"This is an outcomes-based commitment and will ensure the best healthcare is provided to Indigenous Australians, especially those that live in remote areas of our country," Senator Nampijinpa Price said.

Shadow Minister for Health, Senator the Hon. Anne Ruston noted that the early years of a child's life lay the foundation for their future health, but as it stands, infants born in the Northern Territory face greater vulnerabilities such as low birth weights and developmental challenges.

"The post-natal Family Care Centre in Katherine will play a vital role in improving access to primary health care and referral services in rural and remote settings, setting more individuals up to enjoy better health in the long-term," said Senator Ruston.

Shadow Minister for Indigenous Health Services, Senator Kerrynne Liddle said the Coalition will deliver better health outcomes, by funding organisations that are successful and make a practical difference for Indigenous Australians.

"This initiative responds directly to the early childhood development target for Closing the Gap which is currently going backwards," said Senator Liddle.

"The health status of Indigenous Australians remains far behind where it should be, with outcomes-based funding that is based on evidence, not ideology, going much further to improve the health of Indigenous Australians in the Top End."

Country Liberal Party Candidate for Lingiari, Ms Lisa Siebert noted the importance of providing healthcare across the Territory.

Only the Coalition will ensure that Commonwealth funding is directed to delivering practical, outcomes-based solutions to improve the health of Indigenous Australians.
