Media Release: Investing in leadership in our fisheries and forestry industries

Leaders in Australia's fisheries and forestry industries are set to benefit from the much-anticipated launch of the Turnbull Government's $5 million Leadership in Agricultural Industries Fund.

Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources, Senator Anne Ruston, today said the Fund would support leaders in fisheries and forestry representative organisations into the future.

"The Turnbull Government recognises how important strong industry leadership is to the ongoing success of Australia's primary industries, including the fisheries and forestry industries," Senator Ruston said.

"We want to ensure these representative organisations are able to advocate agricultural and rural issues to the wider community and across government, and champion their industries' priorities.

"Seafood Industry Victoria Inc will receive $288,692 to lead a national consortium to enhance the ability of commercial seafood leaders to support industry priorities, including leadership training.

"This will have a focus on developing national industry capacity, supporting leaders to speak and act on industry representative bodies on national issues that impact industry, and build their crisis management skills.

"The Institute of Foresters of Australia will receive $205,000 for a project to support its 'Futures Leaders' program.

"This will assist the development of future forestry leaders, right across forestry industries and forest management.

"Young forestry professionals will be give support to advance their leadership skills through training courses, mentorship programs and professional networking opportunities.

"These are important projects which will have a lasting impact—supporting the next generation of leaders."
