ATAGI’s decision today to recommend a fourth vaccine dose to anyone over the age of 50, and for a fourth dose to be available to anyone over the age of 30, is welcome news.
Many Australians have been asking when they would become eligible for a fourth dose, particularly in the midst of winter with the Omicron variants continuing to spread.
Shadow Minister for Health and Aged Care Senator the Hon Anne Ruston said, “today’s news will provide relief for many concerned Australians, and I would encourage anyone who is eligible to go and get their jab because it’s the best protection you can get.”
“With more than 5 million Australians who have only had two doses, I urge them to go and get their third dose,” Senator Ruston said.
“The government needs to also consider the next steps for the 60 percent of Australians over 65 who had their fourth dose early and are seeking a fifth dose.”
“Covid will be with us for the foreseeable future. We urge the government to investigate safeguards so they are prepared to respond as people’s immunity is reducing with vaccines and treatments being immediately available,” Senator Ruston said.
The Coalition will support sensible decisions of the government to ensure the safety of all Australians.
