Joint Media Release: Dutton Liberal Government Will Provide Crucial Support for the Adelaide 2025 Beach Volleyball World Championships

An elected Dutton Liberal Government will provide $6 million to support the delivery of the 2025 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Adelaide – an important international sporting event for South Australia.

Securing the World Championships was a big win for South Australia, and an exciting opportunity for the state to be a part of the Green and Gold Runway in the lead up to the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.

The Liberals’ commitment will provide much-needed additional funding for the event and support its important objectives of promoting women’s sports equity on the global stage, ensuring the visibility of female players, and encouraging female participation in sport.

Shadow Minister for Sport, Senator Anne Ruston said that it was incredibly disappointing last year when Anthony Albanese refused to provide the necessary funding to support this important international sporting event being hosted in Adelaide.

This demonstrated Anthony Albanese’s complete lack of appreciation for the importance of hosting international sporting events, and his contempt for South Australia,” Senator Ruston said.

“Beach volleyball is an inclusive and significant Olympic sport, and it deserves the same support and recognition as other sporting events we have secured as part of the Green and Gold Runway.

“We are proud to provide this funding commitment to support the delivery of the World Championships here in Adelaide, which will not only benefit our incredible female athletes and sporting fans, but our entire state.

Liberal Candidate for Boothby, Nicolle Flint, said that the Adelaide 2025 Beach Volleyball World Championships is a big win for our local volleyballers to be able to compete on the world stage here at home.

“You can’t be what you can’t see, and this investment helps to remove barriers to participation in sport, whilst seizing on the exciting legacy opportunities for Australian sports ahead of Brisbane 2032,” she said.

“Showcasing this elite international sporting event here in our local community will encourage young women and girls to get active, stay engaged in sport, and aspire to future opportunities – whether that be on or off the sand.
