Clearer country-of-origin labelling a step closer as Government surveys consumers

South Australians are being urged to have their say on clearer country-of-origin food labelling in an online survey.

Senator for South Australia Anne Ruston said clearer labelling was a step closer following the release of labelling concepts for community consideration.

"The Government has been consulting industry to implement a more direct system of food labelling that will provide consumers with the information they want in a way that’s easy to read and understand," Senator Ruston said.

"I urge anyone with an interest in this issue to visit www.industry.gov.au/cool and fill out the community survey. Alternatively, people can request a hard copy survey by calling 132 846, or my office on (08) 8586 6600.

"We have every right to know not only what is in the food we buy, but where ingredients come from. Australians overwhelmingly want clear, easy-to-read labelling on food and food products to help them make informed purchasing decisions."

Surveys must be completed and submitted by 3 July 2015.
