The Australian Government has committed a further $1 million to provide small regional businesses in South Australia with access to free and confidential financial counselling through the Rural Financial Counselling Service (RFCS).
Minister for Agriculture, Drought and Emergency Management David Littleproud said the funding would help eligible small businesses navigate the road to recovery.
“Small businesses are the lifeblood of our regional communities,” Minister Littleproud said.
“Many are now hurting from the triple-whammy of drought, COVID-19 and bushfires.
“This is a practical investment to help those businesses understand their financial position, identify options and implement plans to improve their long-term financial viability.
“The new funding is in addition to the $11.785 million we already provide to the RFCS nationally to support financial counselling services for regional small businesses affected by drought and COVID-19.”
Senator for South Australia Anne Ruston said small business financial counselling and recovery support services will be made available to June 2021.
“This is vital support, particularly to those areas hardest hit by bushfires in the Adelaide Hills and on Kangaroo Island,” Minister Ruston said.
“The additional support means we now have eight Commonwealth-funded small business financial counsellors in South Australia, with more support on the ground to deliver these services.
“Professional Services Funding is also available to provide clients with access to free specialist third-party advice to aid the recovery process, such as financial planning, legal, specialist taxation and accounting advice.
